Critical Readings
The list of readings will be uploaded and will be accessible on May 1, 2015. Because materials for the Seminar will be online, participants must use their on computers. Classrooms will have wi-fi connection to Internet.

Books

Participants will be given for free the 3 volumes of the Antología de teatro latinoamericano 1950-2007 [Anthology of Latin American Theatre 150-2007], co-edited by Gustavo Geirola and Lola-Proaño-Gómez, director and co-director of the Summer Seminar, respectively. The Antología—was made possible thanks to two NEH fellowships 2001-2 Extending the Reach-Faculty Research Award—is a collection of 74 short/one act plays by 80 authors from 14 countries. Plays and authors were selected by following several historical and cultural criteria, their impact on Latin American theatre and culture, and their representation of different aesthetical trends. As co-editors, we tried to give a broad overview of issues and conflicts related to multi-ethnicity and multiculturalism in Latin America (race, minorities, violence, revolution, utopias, gender and social class). Our election of plays also shows different styles of writing for the stage and multiple theatrical traditions, whether European, African, Indigenous, and also for their illustration of high and popular culture.
The Antología, (3 volumes of almost 800 pages each one, with 3 DVDs), was published in 2010 by the INT Instituto Nacional de Teatro de Argentina [National Institute of Theatre]. INT publications cannot be sold; they are distributed free to universities and libraries worldwide, and to theater researchers. The three volumes will be given to participants the first day of their arrival to Buenos Aires. Some plays to be read and discussed during the Seminar will be from that source, but new texts, namely those that were written or produced after 2007, will be also incorporated and distributed to participants.
